MAES milk carton bus the People’s Choice

Matt Arthur Elementary School won the People’s Choice Award in the Made by Milk contest, Drink it. Think it. Make it. Win it. The school will receive $2,500 for this award, which was determined by online voting.

Matt Arthur Elementary’s Art Club created a school bus with 3,248 milk cartons. The project was a team effort. Art teacher Karen Manion led the activity with the help of her students and volunteers. Gloria Howard, a lunchroom monitor, saved milk cartons each day, rinsing them and letting them dry until needed.

Under Manion’s guidance, the young artists created a Matt Arthur Elementary school bus using only milk cartons, appliance boxes, glue, paint and poster board.

“This project gave our Knights the opportunity to collaborate together and create a fun project that they will never forget,” commented principal Richard Rogers. “It has been on display in our Castle the last few weeks. We are excited that the Houston County School System is going to keep our school bus in their Transportation Department!”

When the check arrives, the school plans to spend the funds on an outdoor garden classroom where students can watch plants and vegetables grow.

In addition, art will be placed in this outdoor classroom.
