Warner Robins Police receives awards at South GA K9 Seminar

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — On Nov. 13, the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association held the 14th Annual South Georgia K9 Seminar, providing K9 officers, and their handlers, crucial scenario-based training in a variety of skills, from tracking, to patrol, to narcotics and explosive detection.

When the teams involved excel in their training, they have the chance to receive awards for their hard work, which is exactly what three teams from the Warner Robins Police Department did.

Ofc. Opitz and K9 Brita took home first place in the K9 Team Challenge and third place in Explosive Detection; Ofc. Zeta and K9 Jerry took second place in the K9 team challenge; and Lt. Bish and K9 Kastor took second place in Narcotic Detection and third place in Obedience, according to a media release from the city of Warner Robins.

Also in the release, leadership congratulated the teams for their dedication, skills and teamwork displayed during the seminar.

“The success of our K9 teams at the South Georgia K9 Seminar is a testament to the rigorous training and high standards upheld by the Warner Robins Police Department. We commend the officers and their K9 partners for their exceptional achievements and we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our community,” Interim Assistant Chief of Police Wayne Fisher said.

The police department also showed gratitude toward the seminar’s organizers for providing valuable training and professional development for law enforcement. The South Georgia K9 Seminar was described by the release as a “dynamic platform for K9 teams to engage in scenario-based training across diverse environments, including buildings, passenger cars, buses, tractor trailers, luggage, packages, and open areas.”
