PERRY– Houston County Board of Elections won the Election Administration Golden Leader in Excellence Award on Tuesday, March 26.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger made a trip to Perry to present the award to Election Director Debra Presswood. The EAGLE award recognizes the top performing election directors and county election systems. Raffensperger said that Houston County is one of the tops in the state.

“It’s really the election team but Debra has just done a great job as your election director and we’re recognizing her leadership for what she has done for the Houston County election office and also for the voters of Houston County. They know they have a safe, secure, accurate and really get those results posted quickly. It’s a great voter experience here in Houston County,” Raffensperger said.

Raffensperger shares his excitement for visiting the city and seeing spring blooming and the community growing.

“There’s a lot of good people here and you just have a really dynamic, vibrant community. It’s growing, it’s exciting when you have good positive growth. Lots of opportunities for everyone, good safe communities and great schools. It’s just the very best of Georgia,” Raffensperger said.

He also shares he believes this election year will have a strong turnout and encourages everyone who just moved to the county or is 18 and over to vote. He also added that if anyone is not yet registered to vote to register now.

“The May general primary is coming up shortly and then we’ll have the November race and so we’re going to have a strong turnout I believe for both of those elections. But I want everyone to understand that in Georgia, we’re recognized as one of the top states in the country for election integrity. So, elections can be fair, accurate and we’re going to get those results posted up there quickly for everyone and keep those lines short,” Raffensperger said.

He also informs everyone that no matter how people vote they require people to show their photo ID.

“If you’re going to vote absentee or in person early or on Election Day, it all requires photo ID. That’s added additional security and we believe its added additional confidence and confidence builds trust and trust is the new gold standard,” Raffensperger said.
