HoCo Bears take toughest loss of season in region opener, 55-14 to Valdosta

There are times when the final score of a game doesn’t properly depict the actual outcome of that game. Tonight’s game between the Houston County Bears and the visiting Valdosta Wildcats was not one of those games.

The Wildcats scored on their first drive of the game on a 20 yard touchdown from junior quarterback Tate Rodemaker to sophomore receiver Aalah Brown. The two would connect on a number of big pass plays throughout the game en route to the Wildcats 55-14 victory. Rodemaker would also find junior receiver Jaheim Bell and senior running back Rajaez Mosley for scores during the first half en route to a 42-7 halftime lead.

The Bears tied the game one time, at seven following a first quarter drive that had junior quarterback Max Rigby find receiver Kyah Plummer twice before junior Wesley Steiner ran into the end zone from 22 yards out. That would be the last time the Bears would be within less than five touchdowns. The Wildcats scored 29 second quarter points, including a two-point conversion by an offensive lineman and a quarterback-keeper from Rodemaker.

A scoreless third quarter by Valdosta led to 13 fourth quarter points for the Wildcats and the second scoreless period for the Bears. The 41-point loss is the worse of the season for the Bears who will next face Coffee High School, who took their first loss of the season tonight to Northside, 30-20, at McConnell-Talbert Stadium, on Friday, Oct. 19.
