Centerville PD awarded grant over $13,000

Earlier this month, the Centerville Police Department was awarded a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The grant helps with the education of Centerville youth and surrounding youth in the area. The grant was awarded to purchase equipment to be used in the prevention of traffic related injuries and runs from Oct. 1, 2019 to Sept. 30, 2020.

Centerville Police used the grant to purchase an 8.5 x 20 enclosed trailer, three adult sized pedal carts, DUI sobriety goggles and cones totaling $13,193.00. These items will be used to take to schools and other events in the area to promote traffic safety and the dangers of being under the influence of alcohol.

“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact [that] almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented, is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”

Centerville Police Chief Chuck Hadden said he and the department are excited about the new equipment and their continued partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
