Atlanta Bound: Demons 31-7 victory books them a ticket to AAAAA state championship game v Rome
Warner Robins junior defensive back Keshawn Duvall had his eye on the ball the entire time it was up in the air -possibly for a second or two- and came down with an interception. Carver High School senior quarterback Octavious Battle would throw three interceptions on Friday night but it was the one that Duvall came down with ended any chance of a rally for the Panthers. The Demons were already ahead 28-7 to start the fourth quarter but Duvall’s interception put the nail in the proverbial coffin. Warner Robins defeated Carver 31-7 and earned a trip to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to play Rome High School in the AAAAA state championship game. Duvall’s interception wasn’t just the nail, it was the hammer.
The biggest game in Warner Robins High School football history in over a decade called for a big performance from both the Demons defense and offense and that is exactly what the hundreds of people in attendance got on Friday. Carver would score on their opening drive of the game and fail to threaten to enter the end zone again for another quarter and a half. Warner Robins on the other hand scored touchdowns in three of the four quarters, including Duvall’s 60-yard interception return that virtually ended the game for Carver.
Warner Robins senior kicker Eli Mashburn would add a 34-yard field goal with 3:44 remaining in the game to give the Demons a score on the ground; junior quarterback Dylan Fromm scored the second touchdown of the game for the Demons on a six-yard run to put them ahead 14-7, through the air by way of a pass he would throw 33 yards for a touchdown pass to senior Jaeven West on the game’s opening drive, and on defense. A more dominant performance could not have been expected as the Demons displayed all of their talent en route to completing the ultimate to-do list of high school football.
Warner Robins will play Rome at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets for the game, bus ride information and the obligatory t-shirts will be available on Monday.
A better Warner Robins football however might not come along for a long time. This team has everything going for it and will be playing for it all on Friday afternoon in Atlanta.
“I’m just excited,” said Dylan Fromm. “We put in the work to make it here.”
“I’m speechless,” said twin brother and receiver Tyler Fromm, who not only had a number of key catches but also an interception. “I can’t truly put how I’m feeling into words.”
“It feels good,” said senior defensive end Jam’l Dillard who stood shaking hands and hugging family members at midfield following his multi-sack game. “We just kept making plays. This has just been an unbelivable night.”
“It feels great to be going to the state championship,” said seniro defensive end Bobby Kelly. “I’m just happy to be doing something great for this team and my school.”
“It feels great,” said senior offensive lineman Christian Armstrong, one of the team’s leaders and the country’s most highly recruited players at his position. “The fact that I could do this with these guys is awesome. Hopefully we can do it one more time and win a state championship.”
